Master of the Plains – Bison

Original Size

This painting presents a powerful American bison standing prominently in sweeping open grasslands, with rolling hills and distant mountains setting a vast western backdrop. Warm sunlight highlights the animal’s massive form, emphasizing its strength, resilience, and quiet authority. Smaller figures in the distance reinforce the scale of the landscape and the bison’s dominance within it. The scene conveys both the rugged beauty of the plains and the timeless presence of one of North America’s most iconic animals.

“Master of the Plains – Bison” was commissioned in 2005 by the Badlands National History Association and is on permanent display in the visitor center at the Badlands National Park in Interior, South Dakota.
